If you have an open chat room and ban people for coming in, I do believe that's a violation of many chat nets TOS and COC. Like was mentioned earlier in this thread, people are curious, and maybe they want to pop in and see things. Many first time chatters are weary and shy, and may not know what or how to interact yet. I seat at my pc sometimes for hours and to have n00b's your words not mind lol just pop there head round the door and dont say a word .. Wiley E it take's a few mins look at the greeting you get from my script .. even you would laugh ... in my eye's it is impolite .. it's has I have sed before it doesnt take a min to say a Hi and a Goodbye ... I dont enter a room and say nothing lolol though some room's wish I had So that is why that ban is in place sz if you think that way I want chatters not n00b's in my room .. your words lol not mind. I can understand your frustration as well. What I am trying to convey is that not all of the people that come in a room and say nothing are just trying to spy or irritate owners or members. They may be porn bot runners that are scoping your room for potential 'clients', but, they may also just be new comers. Do any of the regs to your room say hi to the silent ones? If so do they get a reply? Try using a bot/script detector to see if maybe the peepers are bots. I just don't think banning is the most effective way to detour this from happening. What we need is for a server to allow a group like set up. Where you have the chat room and a palce for members to post messages. This way, you can make it a members only room. I know this can be done with passwords. Now that I am thinking about it, there's your solution. You could set up your room to be either invite only or password acess only. I know alot of people don't like Proboards, but they have a chat system now thats incorperated right in the message boards. I am doing some research on it. If it's a descent chat applet, and mIRC will work on it, I may just have some solutions for people you and I that don't want alot of mess, just a place for our friends to be able to chat, post and keep in touch with one another.
