Firefox 8 is not set to officially launch until tomorrow, but a final build has already been posted to Mozilla's FTP servers.

It appears that a number of people are anxious to get their hands on the next version of Firefox, however; access to the FTP servers is currently spotty, likely due to the various direct links from blogs and other news sites.

"The builds are still up on the servers and are undergoing testing and verification as part of our open development process," a Mozilla spokeswoman said via email. "These builds are not final and part of the pre-release activity."

Since Mozilla adopted a Chrome-esque rapid-release schedule, Firefox releases have included incremental updates rather than major overhauls. Firefox 8 includes a lengthy list of bug fixes but as MSNBC notes, some of the more important ones include: third-party adds-on are disabled by default; Twitter is now in the search bar; improved start-up time when windows are restored; improved performance and memory handling; and added support for HTML5 context menus.

The average Web user will likely just want to wait until the official release tomorrow; the Mozilla spokeswoman said everything is on track for that release.

Firefox 7 was released in late September and it addressed a common complaint: Memory use. Firefox 6, meanwhile, came out in mid-August, but despite the more than 1,300 updates, the update was not particularly earth-shattering.
