  1. I had 9 heartbreaking years of running an excellent, innovative chat network ... and the struggle to get users was never-ending and rarely won. Perhaps in the hay-day of IRC, this would have been a feat which was at least in with a shot. These days, with the general decline of IRC (note QuakeNet has dropped below 70,000 users for the first time since it was incepted) ... honestly, I'd be investing my efforts elsewhere.

  2. Oh, and to clarify from some of the previous points I had somehow missed last night... Bench and I are friends outside of 'chat'. I wouldn't have chosen this course of action without at least consulting him on it, given the amount of time he had committed to ChatCore over the years - that being said, he resigned from ChatCore and transferred ownership of the company and the source code entirely to me... so really, the whole debate on whether or not it was my call to make is utterly pointless.

However, for Johnson & co, I think I have the source code to one of our first edition web chats somewhere on a hard disk... it won't work in anything aside from IE6 and earlier editions of the Firefox family of browsers, but since you're all such fans of the MSN OCX I can't imagine that'll be a significant problem.

[/rant] I think this topic can be closed, I can't see how anything productive can materialise here.

  3. Good lord.

"If you come on IRC because it's more important to you than blood, you should probably invest some money in counseling. Don't get all emotional over what happens on here." Written over 11 years ago, yet never have truer words been penned down when it comes to the realm of chat.

Everything which I would have contributed to this thread has already been said by err0r and co. Buzzen didn't acquire ChatCore, I chose to accept a position offered and in so doing shared ownership of the source code with the existing owners of Buzzen. Having been there now for nearly a month, I can say with confidence that this is the best move I've ever chosen to make in the 9 long years of ChatCore's history - best staff, best community, best prospects.

I'm sorry if somehow some of you feel I have denied smaller networks a chance to grow by my choice... but really, this was the only logical course of action to take.

    Take care :)

  4. Before I start, I'd like to thank each and every one of the staff and users for your support over the past 9 years. It's been a fantastic journey, learning curve and hobby and its been an honor to watch it grow from its (very) humble beginnings into what it is now.

In this light, ChatCore as it exists today will no longer be offered on or after the 6th July 2012. This is to allow the commencement of a collaboration project whereby ChatCore's technology will be implemented in a new and exciting way - I'm very glad and equally excited to be a part of this project.

All good things come to an end, and whilst it was a very hard decision for me to let ChatCore go, its also a very exciting time to be involved in what ChatCore will become.

Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!

  5. As expected, many people contacted me after this. A decision has been made, and at this time it is safe to say that no further offers will be considered.

I'm not at liberty to disclose more, needless to say it is a collaboration and not a sale, and should significantly change both ChatCore and the other participant's infrastructure for the better.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and for your kind words above.

  6. Hi all,

I'm aware that everything has fallen a little quiet on the ChatCore front lately, and since a significant amount has changed behind the scenes, I thought this would be an ideal time to make those changes public.

Firstly, and most importantly, it is with regret that after many years of working tirelessly by my side on ChatCore, Andrew (Bench) has decided to step aside to focus on his career and other opportunities. I'd like to take this opportunity to publicly thank him for the sheer amount of hard work he's invested into ChatCore, to make it what it is today.

Secondly, and as a direct result of the first point, I find myself at a crossroad: and the road I've chosen, at least for the time being, is to continue to build on the model that we established in the previous few months, to keep pushing the webchat technology forward and to evolve into wider territories. Its safe to say that at this point, I've not ruled out a possible merger or integration with other chat providers, and as such, any interested parties shouldn't hesitate to contact me @ [email protected].

I still firmly believe that ChatCore has a future, in these ever changing and exciting times for social media especially. Any interested developers (VB.net and C# in particular) should also get in touch using the above address.

Presently, ChatCore operates on a business-as-usual front, and we'd all be delighted to see you there :)

    As always,

    Nathan
